FAQ

How do I record a sample?
Tap the red record button on the home screen. Recording stops automatically after 10 seconds, or tap again to stop early.
How do I play a sample?
After recording, you're taken to the performance screen. Drag your finger across the terrain to scrub through the sample. Your horizontal position controls the playback position.
What does two-finger mode do?
Place two fingers on the terrain to create two independent grain clouds. Each finger controls its own playback position and pitch, letting you layer two textures from the same sample.
Why does the app need microphone access?
Drift records audio samples from your microphone for granular playback. All audio stays on your device and is never uploaded anywhere.
How are recordings named automatically?
Drift uses Apple's on-device sound classification to identify what you recorded (e.g. "speech", "guitar", "ambient"). You can rename any recording by swiping left on it.
Can I delete recordings?
Yes. Swipe left on any recording in the list and tap Delete.
